Paper-thin media player

I just read on Ain’t It Cool News that Entertainment Weekly magazine will be sending out a paper-thin media player in its next edition of the publication to subscribers in New York and Los Angeles for the Sept. 18 edition. The player will serve 7 clips from CBS Television in order to draw up interest in their programming.

Specs on the Americhip player: The screen is 2.7 millimeters thick and has a 320×240 resolution. The battery lasts for about 65 to 70 minutes, and can be recharged by mini USB. The screen uses thin film transistor liquid crystal display and is re-enforced by protective polycarbonate. You can also download updated content to it.

Hello textbook companies!

Actually, this might have been cool 5 years ago.

Save the date

Comic Con is taking place right now and it is the conference for all things GEEK! I wish I were there.

I had posted earlier about the new James Cameron film “Avatar” coming out in December. The audience in the preview at Comic Con were given a 20-minute preview of the film and the reviews coming out are stellar. This is the innovative film of the year if not past 20 years.

A full review can be read here on SciFi Wire’s blog.

My previous post about the innovative film-making and the use of 3D visioning in film can be read here.

Save the date for August 21 because a 15-minute preview will be available for Imax and 3D theaters for the public to view. Reports are that this film will be ground….film-breaking.

Oh and this was shared at Comic Con as well – the title for the new Tron movie. This image is posted full size on AintItCoolNews.com – http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41791 – Austinite reports media, comic, cable, movie news.

Tron

Update on 7/24 – Disney released the TR0N Legacy Teaser Trailer and accompanying website called Flynn Lives. http://www.flynnlives.com/media/video/0xendgame.aspx

Am I ready to pod/vod/blogcast?

I bought one of those FlipHD Mino cameras a few weeks ago with the idea of doing more video projects. I thought I might use this really cool piece of equipment to direct some video podcasts for my district.

But, I am really hesitant about doing so! Not for any other reason than it is stepping out of my comfort zone and into a new spot that I have never done before. Sure, I have attended those Apple trainings on making Podcasts and Vodcasts with Garageband. I have attended several of them as a matter of fact!

I know Audacity as well and how to use various media editors.

But what is my real hold-back? I am not comfortable on film! I am not sure I am ready to start filming myself for these videos I want to do. I need to make my voice sound stronger too. When I watch or listen to the playback, I am not comfortable with the way I come across on the media.

Maybe this is just pre-film jitters? Anyone have ideas on what I can do to remedy this?

Switching to Digital Cable

Found this video and thought I would post. A great PSA about converting to digital for our most analog natives.

The New MEdia

Have you heard about the new MEdia initiative? The convergence of interactive media along with television broadcasting?

What about the idea of being able to purchase an outfit worn by an actress on “Desperate Housewives” at the time of the airdate of the show? Being able to right click on any object on the set and order your own as the show is playing?

Not long ago I blogged about cable programming available for free through online providers like Joost, Veoh, or even Hulu. With Joost and Veoh, you can watch programming and chat in real time with other viewers. An interaction of sorts.

The future: Interact with the objects on the set or part of the costume of the characters. Tagging information in each frame of digital video for search purposes is part of this interaction.

Each frame filled with descriptors and tags for searchable content for every show, movie, or even commercial broadcast over our new digital television broadcast system.

MEdia = mine. I as the viewer can now interact with my own Media.

Keep watching as this develops!
